THE CROATIA CHRONICLES

So here’s the deal about Croatia.

I just spent a week in Croatia with my right hand woman, Bree. I plan on spending another week in Croatia with my right hand man, Eric, in a few days. And following this, Eric and I are sailing through Croatia for a week.

Basically, three weeks of August, and my trip to Europe, will be spent in Croatia. And I’m not mad about it. I fell in love with Croatia. So I am more than happy to return.

But this means, lots and lots of Croatia on the blog. And I’m not mad about that either.

I can only say, prepare yourself for an overload of stunning images and a somewhat spastic approach to my posts.

Spending an extended amount of time in one country allows me to put the camera down, take the pressure off, and truly cherish the moment. I appreciated the time with the people I loved because I knew I would return, or had already been there to discover the magic of a place. This of course, should always be done, but as tourists, we can get a little carried away sometimes.

So to begin the Croatia Chronicles, I give you Bree and her fish.

A very authentic ‘Croatian’ meal would include fish. In this case, an entire sea bass. Eyeballs and all.

Bree and I had one night to spend in Zagreb upon arrival to Croatia. We treated ourselves to a three course meal that only cost us, wait for it, 13 USD each. It was dirt cheap, and incredible.

Following Zagreb we visited the Plitvice Lakes, Split, Brač, Dubrovnik, and it’s surrounding islands. But like I said, spastic, sporadic posts. Stay tuned.

  1. Dear Rachel,
In 1987 I spent a week in Zagreb, with side trips to coastal city of Crikvenica and inland to Velika Gorica. My paternal grandparents came from “Yugoslavia” – separately. They met and married in Chicago. Some day I’ll scan a couple of my favorite photos for you. I totally understand your love for the country. It really is beautiful and friendly. My grandfathers 1st cousin, Milan Pavic, was a famous photographer and I stayed with his wife (Milan passed away a few months before my visit). I did get to see an exhibit of his work at the Univ. in Zagreb. They equate him to our Ansel Adams. 😉 His wife, Slavka, is also a reknown photographer….if you ever have time – Google them. 😉 Velika Gorica is where I found my Great Grandparents graves – and crossed that off my bucket list. (big sigh!)
    Hugs from Cousin Susan 😉
