Eric and I ended our short, week long trip in Greece, with an afternoon in Athens. So as you do in Athens, we went sightseeing! And walked, and walked, and walked.
I mean, you have to stay in shape somehow while abroad.
We made our way up to the Acropolis of Athens and saw the Parthenon. These ruins were stunning. You see photos and hear the history behind these monuments, and then you are there. Standing where thousands and thousands have stood before you, thousand and thousand of years ago.
It was truly breathtaking. We also made our way to the Olympic Stadium and Zeus’s Temple.
Again, when you think of the history linked to these famous monuments, it’s almost unbelievable to witness with your own eyes. It’s not just a picture in your sixth grade history book anymore.
I felt so lucky to experience this day in Athens. Some people will never see these historical monuments in their lifetime. Some people will never feel the overwhelming connection you feel once you actually see them in person. Another humbling moment, reminding me of my place in this big, big world.
I have heard how ridiculously crowded this ares of Athens can become during peak season. This was the biggest advantage for us visiting Greece in October! There were very few tourists meandering the ruins. We could capture great photos without hundreds of bystanders photobombing us.
Overall, visiting Greece during the off-peak season was well worth it. I would like to return and spend a Summer holiday on one of the Greek islands, but for my first visit, I was a happy girl! Greece remains my favorite location in the world, thus far.
That wraps up my Greece installments!
And the best part about that is the fact that I know I am getting so close to seeing ^this guy again. We meet in Budapest in a matter of days. Or we may already have had our reunion. {The struggle is real when you schedule blog posts in advance…}
It’s been almost a year since our secret trip to Greece, and I am ready to take on the rest of Europe with him this Summer. It’s been a long time coming… the last time we spent a chunk of time together of this length, was over two years ago.
And we are so ready.
