48 HOURS IN BATH: DAY 2

My second day in Bath consisted of many activities and long train, coach, and tube rides home. Check back at the end of this post to hear about the tragic journey it took to get home to London.

But for now, here is my second installment about my weekend spent in Bath!

Morning Stroll Through the Canals

I began the morning off with a stroll through the canals of Bath with Michael. We talked about the past and he explained how the canals work, as far as moving boats from one level of water to another. I always love getting outside for some fresh air, even if it means a pinch of rainfall along the way. If I lived in Bath, I would make the canal walk my morning routine.

Fashion Museum

After my walk, Michael returned home and I sniffed out the Fashion Museum. I feel as though this activity is specified for those interested in fashion. As with any form of art, it isn’t for everyone. But this had me written all over it. It was well worth the small amount I paid to view the pieces {being over 200}. I paid some attention to the details pertaining to each era, but my eyes were too distracted just staring at the gorgeous dresses, fur coats, and corsets.

TIP: If you visit the Roman Bath’s on the same day, or in the same weekend, you can receive a discount when you present your ticket!

Thai Food for Lunch

It was then time for lunch and Thai food was calling my name. So was a glass of wine. So I treated myself to both. It probably made me the happiest all day to sit on a balcony, sip on my wine and slurp down some pad thai. People watching can be the best form of entertainment in these circumstances and from this view point.

The Circus

Then I went to The Circus. But, it’s not what you think. It’s just another amazing collection of buildings that form a circle. I made my way around the entire circumference.

Shopping on Southgate Street

Finally, after some inspiration from the Fashion Museum, I decided to do some shopping of my own. Southgate Street is worth taking a wander down even if you don’t have much jangle in your pocket. Even on a cloudy day, you will find it vibrant.

And that concludes my weekend!

Well, not quite.

My journey home was quite tragic. I was put on a ‘replacement’ coach to a train station normally 30 minutes away. From Waverly, I was meant to catch a train straight to London. But then Elton John happened. Well, his concert did. And with concerts comes traffic. And we didn’t make it to the station until and hour and fifteen minutes later. Therefore, you can guess, I missed my train. But so did about 30 other travelers. The solution we were given: being sent right back for Bath to catch a different train straight to London. Supposedly.

But would you believe, when we arrived back to Bath via coach for another 30 minutes, there was no such train leaving the station for London. And wouldn’t be for quite some time. The next solution we were given: take a train 20 minutes in the opposite direction to catch a train BACK to London, completely backtracking. And so I was on my way to Bristol.

Finally we left the Bristol station and I was on my way back home. Altogether my journey took 5.5 hours. When it was supposed to take a measly hour and a half.

The silver lining includes meeting new friends placed in the exact same predicament as me! We all knew the situation was out of our control so a few of us grabbed some drinks and enjoyed the ride.

And for tonight…. COLDPLAY LIVE @Wembley! In box seats as well. I die.

  1. Disappointed….only in not seeing a picture of dear cousin Michael. Visited he and Ginny twice, once in 1987 when they lived near London and again in Bath during the summer of 1993. So fortunate to have had those wonderful visits. Would love to go back, but the time has yet to present itself. (I know you’ll get the meaning of that last sentence.) Hugs from Cousin Susan 😉
