As I sit here in Rome, and attempt to reminisce on the last two weeks in Croatia, I find it a bit daunting. I love writing in ‘real time’, rather than to look back on memories and piece together a summary about a specific destination. Therefore, my next train to Florence will be full of blogging about my ‘real time’ experience in Rome.
Moving on.
One of my favorite destinations in Croatia would have to be the town of Split. Views, beaches, and palm-tree-lined the streets: Split stole my heart.
This was another location that I had the pleasure of returning to during my visit in Croatia. And after exploring multiple towns and islands in Croatia, it remains in my top picks.
Bree and I spent a total of three days in Split before moving on to Dubrovnik. Eric and I then spent another two before boarding our sailboat to the Croatian islands.
The sun was constantly shining in this little port town. The ‘Old Town’ was as easy to navigate as to get lost in {which is always a plus for me}, and there are multiple, fantastic, day trips to take advantage of.
Free entertainment is provided throughout the streets including an acapella band and amazing guitarist playing in the city center.
You will find plenty of seafood restaurants along the marina, as well as in the Old Town. Pricing is reasonable for Croatia, which means cheap for Europe.
If pinched for time, you could easily explore what Split has to offer in a day. Not an afternoon people, but a full day. It truly is a gem.
And that about wraps up my awkward summary of a random destination in Europe. Not so fun. But hopefully somewhat helpful.
^ tastiest salad ever.
Overall, I really have enjoyed my time in Croatia. It is the country I will have spent the most time in during my three month European takeover. I’ve grown to love it. But I’ve had moments where I wish I could escape it. Either way it holds a place in my heart.
With that, I’m holding my belly from all of the amazing Italian food I’ve devoured in the 24 hours I’ve been in Rome, and signing off!
Next up, Brač!
