As mentioned in a previous post, the month of July will be filled with preparing for the next year of my life. As dramatic as it sounds, I need to buckle down and focus. With that being said, I am also making a promise to myself over the next six months. A personal one, not just connected to the blog, but to my own well-being, following suit with the rest of the year thus far. I have yet to fulfill all my commitments placed upon myself earlier in regards to the blog.
And it makes me so sad.
But already, I have whipped out a few blog posts over the last couple of days. Full steam ahead, if possible.
Moving on to the notable normalcies in my life as we move deeper, and deeper into the summer months:
New York
Even with the humidity, this New York summer is slowly turning into one to remember. I recently had a dear friend of mine visit {as I do every month}. Kelsey and I are both Chico State Alum’s and have remained extremely close over the years since graduation. I had been anticipating her arrival for months, and New York chose the perfect weekend to show off when she touched down at JFK. Brunches, rooftops, Hilary Duff, and my first drink of the month were all prime examples of what we got up to. As with all of my guest appearances in NYC, the weekend passed too quickly and I missed her before she had even left.
Bites
With a weekend of visitors comes a weekend of food. Our squad shared almost every meal together over the weekend {including burgers at a Hell’s Kitchen bar around 2:00 AM}. Of all bites, my highest recommendation is The Meatball Shop. This chain serves, wouldn’t you know, meatballs. Not always my first choice, I was a bit skeptical about this whole meatball craze that I had heard nothing but lovely things about. But guys, I was so pleased. Everything is sustainable at The Meatball Shop, from the utensils to the menus. There are vegetarian options and offer some of the best ice cream sandwiches according to USA Today. Whatever you are in to, this place is worth a visit. Side note, the Hell’s Kitchen location offers a ‘secret bar’. So legit.
Pride
NYC recently hosted Pride, another highly anticipated summer event. I would be lying if I didn’t disclose that I was extremely hungover during the Pride Parade. But let me also tell you, if anything is going to get me from sunglasses and arms crossed to smiles and dancing in the street, it is going to be Pride. The energy was contagious, and it didn’t hurt that our entire crew were 100% committed to making the most. This being my first Pride, I may have been thrown off or surprised with some of the outfits and activities occurring in the parade. However, I live in New York City. So these days, nothing can truly shock me. It was a wild day to say the least.
Independence Day
This past weekend was America’s Birthday! Another year older, {not necessarily} another year wiser. My employers last minute gave us the Monday off before the 4th. This meant a four day weekend! With such short notice, I made my way out to the Hamptons for a weekend by the ocean. It did not disappoint. I have an entire post dedicated to my time in the Hamptons here, with more to come. I take every opportunity I can to surround myself with the only family I have out here on the east coast. One of the most memorable nights included sharing a bottle of wine and watching the sun set over Noyack Bay. It was truly magical.
Shows
Speaking of all things patriotic, my show pick as of recently is the oh-so-popular ‘House of Cards’. I have heard the original UK version of this show is better than the American version, but I couldn’t help myself with Kevin Spacey. He is the man {as evil as he may be in this show}. To say I am hooked is an understatement. I am currently in the middle of the second season and feel spoiled to still have multiple seasons ahead. One of the perks of not being on the bandwagon from the beginning.
This upcoming weekend will be spent in New York City, blogging, studying, and praying for blue skies. Fingers crossed!
