NOTABLE NORMALCIES // 6.21.17

Life continues to be {ab}normal here in the city of lights. And yet, I find a way to normalize my time here in a chaotic, unrealistic way. We are gunning through this year. It is almost the end of June, people. This means I have almost been in New York City for six months.

Say, whaaaaat?

This also means it is time to start taking {large} steps towards my next adventure. Let the madness begin. Take a peek into the notable normalcies as of late:

Bites

Okay, actually drinks. But it counts, right? One of the best parts about having Sarah back in close proximity is coffee dates. I swear, coffee dates could change the damn world. Being a tea drinker, I rarely splash out and dive into a warm cup o’ Joe. That’s why the date part of coffee dates is so important to me. Because to me, it truly is an entire experience. And a treat.

I have officially found a “tastes-like-Starbucks-but-is-local-so-you-don’t-feel-guilty” coffee shop here in Brooklyn. Hungry Ghost can be found in Park Slope and next door to another favorite brunch spot. Living, dying, breathing, falling, dreaming, for this place.

Travel

This past weekend I took a trip to one of my favorite locations in the world. I used to live in the Hamptons with my Aunt and Uncle a few years back, and I seriously took it for granted at the time. Now, however, I take full advantage of any time spent on Long Island. The feeling I get when I wake up in the Hamptons is incomparable to anything else. This weekend was no exception. I was presented with a warm, sunny afternoon and also thrown a bit of an overcast, cool day. To be honest, any type of weather is perfect when you are in the Hamptons. Don’t tell anyone, but at times I actually prefer the grey cast of the beach houses along the coast during a cloudy afternoon. More on this in a future blog post {coming soon!}.

Podcasts

Yes. I have become someone that listens to podcasts. And I hate myself as much as you probably hate me right now for even mentioning the word. Or for arriving to this party so fashionably late it’s uncool. I always told myself I wouldn’t become one of those people that listen to podcasts and then discuss them with friends and family… and yet, here I find myself broadcasting it on my blog. To get to the point of this, I have started with the usual: S Town, Serial, and This American Life. And I’m hooked.

Dry June

Just an update, I am still sober on day 21 in the month of June, and feeling absolutely fabulous. With the exception of Pride Weekend here in the big apple this upcoming weekend {why would I want to be sober while parading the streets of New York with a bunch of gay men?}, I will have succeeded in a dry June. Sometimes sacrifices must be made for those you love.

Beauty

I recently realized I have a beauty product that I quite literally cannot live without. Not even being dramatic peeps. The LUSH Angels on Bare Skin face wash is my ride or die. The main ingredients include kaolin clay, ground almonds, and a blend of lavender, rose and chamomile oils. This transforms my skin guys. I absolutely adore LUSH products. They are natural, lacking harsh chemicals, and the only products that make a noticeable difference in my skin. No sponsorship. Not an ad. Just a whole lotta love for this company.

Tunes

And finally, the tunes. Can we just appreciate the fact that Taylor Swift is back on Spotify? I feel like it’s only right to have my first tune include a T Swift song. ‘All To Well’ by Taylor is at the top of my list this week. Nothing like a good throw back. I Like Me Better by Lauv is my jam these days. Any song that begins with, ‘To be drunk and in love in New York City…’ is basically screaming to have a slot on my cheesy playlists. And the production behind this song was so well done. Ugh. Okay, enough. Homemade Dynamite by Lorde is also giving me all the feels lately. As far as bangers go, the only song I want to come on while I’m out this weekend is Reverse by Sage The Gemini. Eyyyy, throw it in reverse. And we can’t go without a feature from Breezy. Welcome to my Life is not only a new single by Chris Brown, but the title of his documentary that I obviously saw on the night it premiered.

And that’s about it for the notable things occurring in my life these days. This weekend includes a great friend from Chico days visiting the concrete jungle {Welcome, Kels!} and celebrating with some of the best for Pride Weekend 2017!
