If we learned anything from Good Charlotte, it’s the fact that lifestyles of the rich and famous are nothing to complain about. I wanted to craft my own opinions about the matter by dedicating an entire afternoon to that of luxury and lavish. And what better place to do so then Cannes, France?
Many people are aware of Cannes thanks to it’s annual international film festival. The Festival de Cannes draws hundred of celebrities each year and is comparable to the Oscars hosted in the US. This year the festival takes place from May 8th to May 19th. You can read more about the festival and it’s most anticipated films here.
After making a quick debut in Monaco to visit the Monte Carlo, I began to feel the effects of living a lifestyle of luxe. I mean, I was on the French Riviera for a week. What’s a girl to do?
Spend a day on the beach with wine and sushi served straight to my own private lounge chair — that’s what.
But more on that later. Similar to Monaco, Cannes is a popular destination to park your yacht and indulge in everything the Côte d’Azur has to offer. I only had two days to enjoy Cannes and I was solely focused on perfecting the task of beach bumming.
That being said, I suggest taking a stroll through Le Suquet {old town Cannes}. I visited the seaside village in September and the whole place honestly felt like a ghost town. The french have a reputation of taking holidays consistently throughout the year — I am here to confirm such beliefs.
As I mentioned earlier, I had a one track mind in Cannes: beach, beach, beach. Therefore, I don’t have many personal recommendations on things to do in Cannes {that don’t involve sand between your toes and a cocktail in your hand}. For a more comprehensive list of things to do in Cannes, check out this post from Kevin and Amanda {their photos are always goals}. Their list includes the Foreville Market, Rue Meynadier, and popular ice cream spots.
Let’s get back to the wine and sushi part though. I spent a majority of my time along the Promenade de la Croisette. This is a curved promenade lined with sandy beaches and seaside restaurants. It should come as no surprise that the restaurants located directly on the beach are a bit esssssspensive. Even so, I made the decision early on that I wanted a taste of the ‘rich and famous’ lifestyle {literally and figuratively}.
So, how much did an afternoon on a private beach of Cannes cost me?
To hire a lounge chair with attached umbrella for half a day cost me €20 {during the off season mind you}. Add in a bottle of wine and sushi delivered straight to my comfortable spot in the sand — my total came to approximately €60. To be honest, the experience was reasonably priced in my opinion. At the time, I was traveling on a very strict daily budget which did not allow for multiple days like this one. But one day? I made an exception.
I tanned, I sipped, I nibbled, I floated in the ocean, and I didn’t regret a second of it. In conclusion, I must agree with Good Charolette — nothing to complain about here.
Of course there are plenty of public beaches in Cannes complete with white sand and crystal clear water. I just made it a point to get the best of both worlds. I still look back on that afternoon fondly and hope to return to enjoy all the luxuries once more.
