Zadar was definitely a more laid back destination in Croatia, compared to the other locations I visited. Personally, I used Zadar as a halfway point when traveling between the Plitvice Lakes and Spit. With only 24 hours in the small seaside town, I attempted to make the most.
A few highlights in Zadar included the bell tower, the sea organ, and the ‘Greeting to the Sun’. I also stumbled upon a restaurant that serves solely raw entrees, and hosts spectacular views! And, and, and! It turns into a bar/outdoor nightclub during the evenings.
The ancient capital of Dalmatia was elected the Best European Destination for 2016, which happened to be the year I visited. My travel partner at the time agreed, and claimed Zadar was one of his favorite places in Croatia. While it wasn’t mine, it did provide as a quiet retreat from busier Split and Dubrovnik.
Overall, Zadar served its purpose as a quick stopover destination after leaving the Plitvice Lakes. If you have the time, or simply want to slow down for a few days, Zadar might just be the place for you!
